Lucknow News: Silk weaving a stronger future in UP with Yogi govt’s support, Silk programs to roll out in 15 UP districts, fueling rural employment

Lucknow: Under the leadership of Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, the Uttar Pradesh government has set an ambitious target to boost silk production by connecting 7,500 group members through the State Rural Livelihood Mission in the 2025–26 action plan. This initiative marks a significant step toward rural employment and the vision of a self-reliant India.

To boost silk production, the Yogi government has devised a focused strategy for intensive implementation across 15 districts this financial year. These districts will receive training, modern technology, and financial support to help silk farmers and producers compete globally. This initiative aims to blend traditional industries with innovation, strengthening the rural economy and promoting sustainable livelihoods.

An MoU has already been signed between the State Rural Livelihood Mission and the Silk Department to increase women's participation in silk production. Under this agreement, a target has been set to connect 50,000 members of 5,000 women's groups with silk production and industry in the next five years.

CM Yogi has prioritised this scheme to empower rural youth and women. Seeds, equipment, and marketing support will be provided to the groups associated with silk production, increasing their income. The step will also help promote silk production under the ODOP (One District, One Product) scheme, giving a new identity to the state's traditional artisans.

The state's annual silk production is 400 metric tonnes, while its consumption has reached 3,500 metric tonnes. Varanasi, the Prime Minister's parliamentary constituency and a key center under the CM's ODOP scheme, has the highest demand for silk. To make Uttar Pradesh self-reliant in silk production, CM Yogi Adityanath launched the Mukhyamantri Resham Vikas Yojana this year. Notably, silk exports from the state have grown 28-fold over the past eight years, and this scheme aims to further elevate silk production to new heights.

According to information from the Silk Department, 1050 women's groups have been linked to silk production. 'Resham Sakhis' and Block Mission Managers are being trained in each block. Technical training will be given to provide efficiency in silk production, thread manufacturing, cloth weaving and sale of finished products so that women can become economically self-reliant.

This visionary step of the Yogi government will create employment opportunities and encourage eco-friendly production. The Yogi government aims to double silk exports in the next five years, giving new impetus to the state's economy.
