UP government to run ‘Ped Bachao’ campaign till January 14
Quarterly ‘Ped Bachao’ campaign begins in UP, special focus on protecting saplings planted in mothers’ names
Lucknow: The Uttar Pradesh government, led by Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, has introduced a quarterly 'Ped Bachao' (Save Trees) campaign following the plantation of 36.80 crore saplings across the state. The campaign, which runs from October 3 to January 14, aims to ensure the maintenance and protection of these saplings.
On Tuesday, the state’s Forest, Environment, Zoological Park, and Climate Change Minister, Dr. Arun Kumar Saxena, formally launched the campaign at Soumitra Van, located along the banks of the Kukrail river.
During the launch, he also reviewed the condition of the saplings previously planted in the Soumitra forest.
Dr. Saxena emphasized the importance of the initiative, noting that the quarterly drive is part of the government’s ongoing commitment to sustaining environmental efforts made under the ‘Tree Planting Campaign.’
He instructed officials to prioritize the care of these saplings, which hold symbolic significance as they are planted in the name of mothers (Ek Ped Ma Ke Naam), whom he described as being of utmost importance.
He further stressed that, under the Chief Minister’s orders, he will personally inspect the saplings’ progress in various districts, and warned that negligence in their upkeep will not be tolerated at any level.
