Lucknow News: Yogi govt approves proposal to establish Chandigarh University in Unnao

• Higher Education Minister presents authorization letter to Chandigarh University's representatives

Lucknow: In a significant move to advance higher education, the Yogi government has approved the proposal for establishment of Chandigarh University in Unnao district. On Thursday, Higher Education Minister Yogendra Upadhyay formally handed over the authorization letter for the university's establishment to representatives of the Chandigarh University (CU) International Educational Trust at the Secretariat. 

Notably, the proposal for this university, under the leadership of Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, received Cabinet approval through circulation. This decision will enhance students' access to high-quality education in Uttar Pradesh. The new Chandigarh University campus will be located along the Lucknow-Kanpur highway, benefitting students from Unnao and nearby districts. 

After presenting the authorization letter for the establishment of Chandigarh University on Thursday, Higher Education Minister Yogendra Upadhyay said, "This decision by Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath’s government will be revolutionary for higher education in Uttar Pradesh. Not only will it provide students with access to high-quality education, but it will also mark a new chapter in the state's educational landscape." 

Upadhyay emphasized that the Uttar Pradesh government, under CM Yogi Adityanath's leadership, remains committed to enhancing and expanding the scope of higher education. He added, "The establishment of Chandigarh University in Unnao will drive increased competition and raise the standards of higher education, opening up better employment opportunities for the state's youth."

"This state-of-the-art institution will equip students to compete on national and international stages, positioning itself as a key hub of higher education in Uttar Pradesh, poised to elevate students' careers to new heights", he remarked further.

A formal notification issued by Special Secretary Girijesh Kumar Tyagi on September 19, 2024, addressed to the Secretary/Chairman of CU International Educational Trust, confirms the inclusion of "Chandigarh University, Unnao" under the private sector at number 45 in Schedule-2 of the Uttar Pradesh Private University Act, 2019, as per the Uttar Pradesh Private University (Seventh Amendment) Ordinance, 2024. The notification grants official recognition to Chandigarh University, Unnao, and permits its operation under the conditions outlined in the authorization letter.
