Lucknow: The Yogi Adityanath government has made remarkable progress in enhancing educational opportunities for underprivileged and deserving students in Uttar Pradesh. A prime example of this initiative is the establishment of 100 Jai Prakash Narayan Sarvodaya Schools, operated by the Social Welfare and Tribal Development Department, across the state, which aims at ensuring quality education for all.
These schools provide high-quality, residential, free education for underprivileged students, along with free hostel accommodations, study materials, and uniforms. This initiative not only enhances the future prospects of economically disadvantaged students but also paves the way for stability and social prosperity in their lives.
Notably, the number of the schools has gone up from 94 to 100, further strengthening the state's commitment to inclusive and accessible education.

Initiative to include all sections of the society
In Jai Prakash Narayan Sarvodaya schools, 60 percent of seats are reserved for students from Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes, 25 percent for Other Backward Class students, and 15 percent for General Category students. This inclusive policy ensures that children from economically disadvantaged families across all communities have equal access to education.
Separate schools are available for boys and girls, creating a safe and conducive learning environment. Currently, there are 100 Sarvodaya schools across 58 districts, comprising 31 Sarvodaya Balika Vidyalayas (for girls) and 69 Sarvodaya Balak Vidyalayas (for boys). Residential facilities are being expanded in 45 of these schools to further support students.

Free coaching facility for NEET, JEE preparation available to Sarvodaya Vidyalaya students
The Yogi government's initiatives are turning the dreams of underprivileged girl students to become doctors and engineers into reality. Talented girls studying in Sarvodaya schools across the state are now receiving free coaching for NEET and JEE exams. A dedicated coaching center has been established in Madihan, Mirzapur district, where 40 meritorious girl students are provided with this free coaching, supporting their ambitions and opening doors to prestigious careers.

CM Yogi's focus on all-round development along with education
In Sarvodaya schools, the Yogi government is providing not only free education but also essential supplies, including study materials, uniforms, and sports facilities, at no cost to students.
This comprehensive support aims to empower students educationally, physically, and mentally. To ensure high-quality education, a recruitment drive for 570 retired state government teachers is underway.
Among these, TGT (Trained Graduate Teachers) for classes 6 to 10 receive an honorarium of Rs 34,125, while PGT (Post Graduate Teachers) for classes 11 and 12 receive Rs 35,700.
Number of beneficiaries increased as a result of Yogi government efforts
In recent years, this government initiative has led to a steady increase in the number of beneficiary students. From 32,429 students in 2018-19, the figure has risen to over 35,000 in 2024-25. The state now boasts 100 Sarvodaya residential schools, with six new schools added recently.
