To promote educational innovation and improve teaching methods, the Yogi government has introduced a unique initiative for council teachers. A state-level art, craft, and puppetry competition encourages educators to move beyond traditional approaches and adopt creative techniques. This initiative aims to make learning more engaging and effective by integrating artistic and hands-on methods into the classroom.
This competition, organized by the Uttar Pradesh State Council of Educational Research and Training (SCERT), Lucknow, was launched in 2017-18 with the formation of the Yogi government. This year, it is being held from October 21 to 25.
Notably, the first phase of this competition, now a major event among teachers in the state, took place at the district level on September 24. The second phase of the competition began on Tuesday and will continue until October 25.
One selected teacher from each district has been sent to participate in the state-level competition. Now, as part of the second phase of the event being held at SCERT in Lucknow, these teachers are showcasing their talents, and striving to prove themselves as the best in this prestigious competition.
A total of 375 teachers from 75 districts have been allowed to showcase their talents in this competition. Now, the participating teachers are striving to demonstrate, with the help of teaching-learning materials (TLM), how the use of their prepared resources can effectively enhance children's skills and proficiency in learning.
The competition has predefined subjects for both primary and upper-primary-level teachers. For primary-level teachers, the subjects are 'Language' and 'Mathematics,' while upper-primary-level teachers are assigned 'Mathematics,' 'Science,' and 'Social Science.' Teachers in these categories are showcasing their teaching methods through art, craft, and puppetry related to these subjects.
Dr Pawan Sachan, the Joint Director of SCERT, stated, “In line with the government's intention, guidelines have been established to avoid sending the same teacher repeatedly for the competition and to provide new teachers with the opportunity to participate. Efforts are being made to showcase the innovations of these new teachers by giving them a platform to present their ideas.”
Ganesh Kumar, the Director of the State Council of Educational Research and Training, Lucknow, remarked, "This competition is a golden opportunity for teachers to showcase their creativity and innovations. Integrating teaching with methods like art, craft, and puppetry is a significant step toward enhancing the quality of education."
